If last week could be accurately described as trying then this week can honestly be described as its polar opposite. This week with Little Man has been full of fun, laughter, and tons of family and friends. Not only did Jack turn 19 months old this week, but we saw Oma and Papa twice, Jack married his little friend Kiera, and we went out for breakfast! It’s been quite a week, but like most of our weekly excitement most of the fun started on Friday and lasted through to Sunday.
For the majority of the week Mommy and Jack have spent our time in the kitchen. Mommy has been working on getting more freezer meals made for the upcoming school year, which is fast approaching, and Jack was more than happy to help in any way he could. Of course Jack’s idea of helping was emptying all of the drawers and cupboards out onto the kitchen floor. Fortunately, the floor was super duper clean. Cleaning the house was yet another activity that has occupied our time prior to Friday. Jack is such a vacuuming and swiffering stud!
Jack’s love of helping in the kitchen and cleaning is probably why Kiera was so eager to wed our Little Man. Friday morning Mommy’s best friend, Janae, and Jack’s little buddy, Kiera, came over for another play date. Mommy and Jack were totally spoiled since they had just been over to play the previous Tuesday. Mommy made yummy fruit muffins for the occasion and Janae made freshly squeezed orange juice which was a huge hit. While the little ones were playing and Mommy and Janae were scrapbooking, Kiera walked up wearing her pink blanket as a skirt and play beads around her neck and stated “I’m gonna marry Baby Jack”. What proceeded to take place was Kiera giving Jack her paci and he handed it back to her. They then walked into the playroom and Kiera tried to show Jack how to dance, “C’mon Baby Jack! Let’s dance!”
We finished off the play date with some lunch and Mommy bid a fond farewell to her new daughter-in-law while Jack waved “bye-bye” to his blushing bride. It was certainly a great way to kick of the weekend.
Saturday was a super busy day! After breakfast, Mommy, Daddy, and Little Man piled into the car and we were off to Oma’s house for a visit. Oma had some clothes to give Jack and Jack had some kisses to dish out to Oma and Papa. To make the morning even better Cousin Carson was there! Jack and Carson had a blast chasing Oma’s dogs around the house and playing with a Jack in the Box. Oddly enough this is a toy that Jack doesn’t own. Later, we all took a family photo, but like most family photos with toddlers, it was a bit of a silly scene.
After our photo we headed home so Little Man could take his afternoon nap. Jack would need all the rest he could get because after he woke up we were off to Costco for some serious shopping. After all, the ingredients for Mommy’s freeze a head meals needed to be restocked. The entire time we were out and about Jack was a perfectly content little dude. He was so intrigued by everything going and the things he was seeing that he didn’t have time to be grumpy. In fact, when we were sitting at Costco eating our lunch, Jack began sharing his graham crackers with Mommy. He was actually taking the little pieces and attempting to put them in my mouth. It was a little chimp like, but still incredibly cute.
On the way home from Costco Little Man started to get a little cranky. However, once Mommy took off his socks, Jack soon found a distraction. At one point he managed to fit his toes in his mouth and then discovered the meaning of the phrase, “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”

Sunday was even more hectic and full that Saturday, but just as much fun. Usually Sundays are our bum around the house day, but given that the family has been in school preparation mode for the past week Sunday was no day to be bumming around. Although we did take advantage of a little cuddle time with Little Man, but loving time doesn’t count as bumming time.
By 10:30 everyone was all dressed and ready to head out to Rockie’s , a 50′s diner, where we were meeting Oma, Papa, Aunt Miranda, and her new boyfriend, Clint, for breakfast. Oma was more than happy to sit next to Jack Jack and help him eat his pancake. It was so nice because Mommy and Daddy were actually able to sit and eat our breakfasts without worrying about Jack hurling food at a waitress passing by on roller skates. Mommy isn’t sure if it was the food or being able to eat a meal uninterrupted, but that was the best breakfast burrito I have ever had.
Right after breakfast it was time to take Jack Jack back to his crib (literally) for his afternoon nap. Mommy and Daddy had so many things to do and so many places to go once he got up we spent much of his nap time looking at our watches wondering when our sleeping babe would awaken. This was definitely a first!
Once Jack woke up we were off to Jamba Juice. To be more accurate Mommy was off to Jamba Juice to get smoothies while Daddy and Jack waited in the car. Daddy had been craving an Orange Dream machine while Mommy was content to get an Aloha Pineapple. I wasn’t able to finish mine so Jack was quite pleased when I shared mine with him.
Following our jaunt to Jamba Juice we headed off to Barnes and Noble. To be more accurate, Mommy and Jack were off to the parking lot of Barnes and Noble while Daddy was the one to actually enter the store. Daddy had a gift card for there that he was anxious to spend on a season 4 of Mad About You. Mommy and Daddy have always liked this old(er) show and over the summer before we go to bed we’ll watch an episode or two while we cuddle in bed. We were quite excited to see that season 4 had finally been released this past month on DVD as we have been waiting for the better part of 5 years.
Once Daddy returned to the car we were off to our final errand of the day, Fred Meyer to go grocery shopping. Although we had spent Saturday afternoon at Costco grocery shopping, there are just some things a person doesn’t need in bulk. While we were there Mommy took the opportunity to buy my back to school supplies along with a few needed items for scrapbooking.
We were highly organized for this trip so we weren’t there for very long. Jack was being an exceptionally patient little boy none the less. He was even giving Daddy lots of hugs and kisses as Daddy pushed him around in the cart. Kisses have been Jack’s latest “thing”. He’s always been very sweet about putting his cheek out for a kiss when you ask him for a kiss, but in the past week or so he has actually been giving kisses and on the lips! Just the other day when Daddy went to get Jack out of bed Jack was holding Rufus and Elmo and having them kiss each other and then kiss him. He is such a loving and affectionate little guy.
The rest of our Sunday evening was spent relaxing. After dinner we watched our Sunday family movie. This week it was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs which was quite a cute little flick. Then, Jack was off to bed and Mommy and Daddy were off for some cuddle time together.
The week always goes by so fast. One moment it’s Tuesday and the next it’s time for the weekend and before we know it, it’s time for the week to start all over again. Mommy still can’t get over how quickly time flies or how fast our sweet Little Man is growing. Every day there is something new and it’s all Mommy and Daddy can do to savor each passing day. Even the days when it seems our little guy has been replaced by Mr. Grumpster there is something wonderful to behold. Mommy can’t help, but think how incredibly lucky and blessed our little family is to have each other. I can’t imagine a life without the family, friends, and love we are so fortunate to experience every day.
Quick Jack Facts
- Saturday just wasn’t a day for family, but also a day for friends! Mommy and Daddy’s friend Deidra came over Saturday afternoon while Jack was taking his nap. She brought with her her darling little baby girl, Angelina. Deidra was so excited to meet Jack when he finally woke up and Mommy was excited to see how Jack would react to a little baby. Jack is used to being the youngest on in all situations. So, to encounter a little baby only a few months old was quite the event. At first Jack was a little apprehensive, but then all he wanted to do was make the little girl smile. He thought she was just great! This definitely puts a few worries the Mommy and Daddy had at ease. After seeing how Jack romps around with the puppies we were a little concerned about how Jack would act around a baby.

This morning Jack fed himself breakfast with a spoon, all by himself, for the very first time! Mommy had made Jack some oatmeal which was just thick enough to be perfect for Jack to practice his spooning skills. Mommy was a little worried that most of the oatmeal would end up in Jack’s hair, but much to my surprise and delight Jack managed to get most of it in his mouth! When some would fall off of his spoon he would actually pick it up off of his tray and put it back in his bowl. I was so proud!
