October 20th, 2009 – Crib Notes
Even though Jack hit his 9 month birthday last week, week 40 brought its fair share of milestones. One of the biggest milestones was actually one for Mommy and Daddy. On Friday we left the house for the evening without Jack. Yes, Little Man had his first experience with a babysitter. Granted he was asleep for the entire time and didn’t know the difference. This is why this was a major milestone for Mommy and Daddy.
JaNae and Kiera were nice enough to come over before bedtime and play for a little while. Then, when it was time to go to bed, Daddy and Jack went through their normal routine. Once Jack was a visitor of the Land of Nod, we were on our way to the theatre to see The Pavilion. We took Oma and Grandpa as a treat for Oma’s birthday. It was a fun evening for Mommy and Daddy, who haven’t left the house together and alone for almost year. (Mommy wasn’t much for stepping out in the last trimester of her pregnancy).
It took a lot of restraint not to call and check in every few minutes. It helped that we were in a venue that wouldn’t allow such a thing and the fact that it was JaNae babysitting. We knew he was in capable hands. But we still called at intermission and as soon as the play was over. Jack didn’t stir even once. We were worried because the previous few nights he had a difficult time going down. This was due in part to his two new front teeth he is getting in – right on top to match his other two front teeth.
The weekend was fairly eventful as well. Saturday was Oma’s birthday so we drove out to see her and wish her a “Happy Birthday!”. Unfortunately traffic was pretty hairy so we were on the road longer than we would have liked, but Jack Jack was quite the little trooper and didn’t fuss even once. He had a blast hanging out with the family. Unfortunately Aunt Danielle had guard duty so she wasn’t there and Cousin Carson had just had ear tubes put in the previous day so he wasn’t feel well enough to be present either. But just like every other weekend, the day flew by and before we knew it, it was time to head back home.
Sunday was fairly laid back with very little going on, with the exception of Mommy and Daddy embarking on a 4 ½ hour long Hamlet adventure for one of Mommy’s classes. When Daddy was busy playing with Baby Man and Mommy wasn’t busy with homework, we busy packing away the last vestiges of Jack’s infancy. He has grown so much and wiggles so much in his crib that it became time for Daddy to lower Jack’s mattress and for his bumper to be packed away. Daddy took one last shot of Jack in his crib after a nap before we made the changes.

To add to Jack’s night time enjoyment, Daddy also affixed several glow in the dark stars to Jack’s ceiling. He practically has his own solar system. What’s especially neat is where the stars come from – they were stars that Mommy had on her ceiling growing up. It’s funny the things you collect over a life time and pass on to the ones you love.
One of Jack’s new tricks, apart from wiggling in his crib is his ability to roll over in his crib. In fact, as of today, he took both of his naps on his tummy of his own volition. It was quite shocking to Mommy to see this take place, but what are you going to do? He’s a growing boy and apparently he prefers to sleep on his tummy like Mommy and Daddy.
